01 Aug How to Organize A Laydown Area
A laydown area is a space used for the receipt, temporary storage, and occasional assembly of construction equipment and supplies. They are most common on construction sites, but other industrial operations are also known to use them.
- Make sure there is plenty of space between heavy equipment and any supplies that will need to be moved frequently.
- Place items that are used less frequently or not needed for your current project out of the way
- Create clear, sizeable walking paths for all workers to access the areas and materials they need.
- Make use of quotation tape and barriers to keep people and visitors out of hazardous areas and off of paths where heavy or dangerous equipment may be traveling.
- Properly dispose of any items that are unrepairable or simply trash to avoid clutter.
- Schedule regular evaluations for the area to determine if you can improve the setup in any meaningful way
By implementing the above, you can mitigate many of the risks associated with laydown areas. To maintain a well-organized laydown space, everyone must pitch in together. It is easier to put things where they go initially, rather than waiting until the end of the day when you and your employees are tired from the day.
